Crowned Privacy Policy

Last updated 10 October 2026

Crowned is a logic puzzle game published by Chris Knoche. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and how to have it deleted. It covers the Crowned Android app and the Crowned web app.

The short version. You can play the entire game without an account and without sending us anything. If you choose to sign in with Google, we store your puzzle progress so it survives a new phone, and your chosen username so you can appear on the daily leaderboard. If you buy Jewels, Google Play handles the payment and we never see your card. We do not show ads, we do not sell data, and we do not share anything with advertisers.

Playing without an account

If you do not sign in, your progress, settings and Jewels are stored only on your device. We do not receive them. The app downloads its puzzle catalogue from our server, which is an ordinary web request and is not tied to you.

What we collect if you sign in

DataWhy
Email address and an account identifier, from Google Sign-InTo identify your account so your progress follows you between devices.
Username and chosen avatarShown publicly beside your time on the daily challenge leaderboard.
Puzzle progress: which boards you solved, best times, stars, hints used, mistakesTo back up your game and show your stars on any device you sign in on.
Jewel balance and themes you ownThe in-game currency and cosmetics you have earned.
Daily challenge timesTo rank you on the public daily leaderboard.
Jewel purchases: the pack, the Google Play order number, when it was bought, and whether it was later refundedTo add the Jewels to your account exactly once, to take them back if a purchase is refunded, and to answer questions about a purchase.

Separately from all of the above, the app records anonymous usage data that is not tied to your account. See below.

We never receive your Google password. Sign-in is handled by Google, which returns only the information listed above.

Buying Jewels

The Android app sells packs of Jewels, the in-game currency. Buying needs an account, so the Jewels are kept with it rather than on one device. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play: we never receive your card number, billing address or any other payment detail. Google tells us which pack was bought, its order number, when, and whether it was later refunded or charged back, and we store that with your account as listed above.

The anonymous usage data described below includes that a pack's purchase screen was opened and how it ended (bought, pending, canceled or failed), but never a price, a payment method or an order number.

What is public

If you complete a daily challenge while signed in, your username, avatar and completion time appear on that day's leaderboard, which anyone can see. Nothing else is public. Your email address is never shown to other players.

Anonymous usage data

The app records what people do in it, so we can tell which puzzles are too hard, which lessons work, where players get stuck, and which parts of the app get used at all. This happens whether or not you sign in.

Each install invents a random identifier for itself. It is not your device's ID, it is not derived from your hardware, and it cannot be linked to you or followed to any other app. Events record things like "opened a Foundations board", "asked for a hint on this puzzle", "solved it in 94 seconds with 2 stars", "opened the Learn tab", "spent 40 Jewels on a hint". They never contain your name, your email, or anything you typed.

Each time the app opens it also records how it is set up: which theme and whether light or dark mode is on, which gameplay settings are on, whether the phone or tablet layout is in use, the screen size rounded to the nearest 10 pixels, and your time zone as a whole number of hours from UTC, so we can see what time of day people play. When the app goes to the background or comes back, it records how long it was on screen or away.

You can switch this off at any time: Profile → Gameplay → Share anonymous usage. Nothing is recorded or sent while it is off, not even the fact that you switched it off, and anything waiting to be sent is discarded. Raw events are deleted after thirteen months; only daily totals are kept longer.

Crash reports

The app sends crash and error reports to Sentry so we can fix problems. These are configured not to include your identity: account details, network headers and cookies are removed before sending, and when a crash recording is captured, all on-screen text is masked. Crash reports contain the error, the app version, and the device model and operating system version.

Children

Crowned is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Who processes your data

These providers process data on our behalf. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

How long we keep it

Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and it is removed immediately, as described below. Crash reports are retained by Sentry for up to 90 days and are not linked to your identity.

Deleting your account

In the app, open the Profile tab, scroll to the bottom and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your account, your progress, your Jewels and themes, your purchase records, and your leaderboard entries. It cannot be undone, and Jewels you bought and have not spent are lost with it. Google keeps its own record of your orders under its privacy policy, and refunds are handled through Google Play.

You can also request deletion without the app on our account deletion page.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the data we hold about you. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
